FEATURED PROJECTS

LUNE DE SANG PAVILION

Completed 2018

The Pavilion is the latest stage of the ambitious Lune de Sang project located in the Byron Bay hinterland. The pavilion is both a home and a public gathering space for family and friends that are split into two distinct parts. Sustainability and integration were key motivators for this project, in particular with the Pavilion and the local ecosystem. As such, close collaboration and exploration were required between the design team, the builder and client to achieve these results. Interior task lighting was integrated into the rhythm of the ceiling, hidden from view, with high visual comfort. In the pool graduated light spills over the horizontal surface of the steps and along the long side it runs as a continuous element filling the pool with light for atmosphere.

BALMORAL HOUSE

Completed 2019

A grounded compact family home consisting of stacked and interconnected volumes that enhance the daylight opportunities, as well as the views to Balmoral and the internal outdoor spaces. The centrepiece of the house is the main glazed stair that allows daylight to penetrate and to reflect from the small pond beneath it. A large rectangular custom artificial skylight is set-out on the size and shape of the kitchen island bench. Surface spot lights are arranged in groups of three and set-out geometrically off-centre.

ART GALLERY OF NSW - OLD COURTS

Completed 2018

LED lighting upgrade to the gallery lighting installed in the Old Courts at the Art Gallery of NSW. The existing 300 watt halogen track mounted flood lights were replaced with new 48 watt LED flood lights, reducing the total energy consumption by more than 80%, as well as reducing the total number of fittings required to illuminate the artwork, and doing all of this without compromising the visual quality of the Courts and the visitor experience. Extensive research and lighting trials were undertaken to select the appropriate replacement luminaire that had to satisfy the strict conservation and high colour rendering and light technical requirements that were formulated and set.

RUDY KOMON CURATORIAL CENTRE

Completed 2020

Refurbishment of the Rudy Komon temporary gallery and exhibition space, into a new office space with meeting rooms and a kitchen, for the curatorial staff at the Art Gallery of NSW. Over sized rectangular shaped workstation pods tower through the open space with a central undulating corridor linking the entry to the kitchen area. The ceiling is uplit from the walls on either side and local task lighting is provided within each pod via the custom built joinery. This in turn allows the pods when viewed from the outside to feel monolithic with subtle variances of light on each side.

NORTH BONDI RSL

Completed 2017

Refurbishment of the North Bondi RSL Club from a dive bar to a modern beach house inspired club that takes advantage of the location and views. A palette of lighter tones and finishes brightens and opens the interior bar and dining areas. Pendant and wall lights take on board the nautical theme to feel like you are on a boat just off the coast. Reflections of the beach can be seen in the specular wall lights. The main area is uplit via the perimeter walls, so you can take in the uninterrupted views outside.

ROMEO'S IGA
AUSTRALIAN TECHNOLOGY PARK

In Construction

Fit-out of a new Romeo's IGA food hall inside the refurbished locomotive workshop in the Australian Technology Park site. Heritage plinths displaying historic locomotive relics are located at the main shop entrance and highlighted from floor mounted spot lights. Heritage double columns are uplit consistently from common areas and into the tenancy. Exposed track mounted spot lights highlight menus and displays, with high vertical and low glare illumination to highlight the aisle merchandise via suspended double asymmetric linear profiles. Over sized pendants used in Australian underground mines provide a decorative element suspended over the fresh produce at the entry.

Callan Park Soccer Field Lighting - Phot

WATERFRONT DRIVE CALLAN PARK

Completed 2018

Located at Waterfront Drive Lilyfield, this project involved the construction of new 25 metre high lighting towers to illuminate two soccer fields for training purposes in accordance with AS 2560 and AS 4282. The site had its fair share of challenges which included upgrading ancient and non-compliant electrical infrastructure that was operated by OEH, locating the lighting towers that are installed at sea level, minimising light spill and glare to surrounding properties and the local environment, and avoiding the existing high voltage Ausgrid electrical in-ground services that supply the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Echo Point Vistors Information Centre -

ECHO POINT
VISITOR'S INFORMATION CENTRE

Design Completed

Revitalisation of the Echo Point Visitors Information Centre located in the world heritage listed Blue Mountains to provide a high quality tourism facility that takes in the sweeping beauty of the area through the transparent unframed facade. The building will include spaces for local artists to produce works, an exhibition room to display nearby aboriginal sacred sites and an open ampitheatre. Indirect lighting uplights the soffit from the central curved spine centred in the building keeping the soffit a continuous clean plane. Local task lighting installed onto display plinths to highlight merchandise and to joinery shelves that also all light to spill onto the floor. Outside, uplights are set-out at each column to highlight the soffit, and at the ampitheatre the stone-faced walls are grazed from concealed lighting to reveal textural qualities and atmosphere. The Darug and Gundungurra indigenous communities are the traditional owners.
